This is the Place - ZCMI

The ZCMI store is one of our favorite places to go. First, we go to the bank to exchange our money for pioneer dollars and then head across the street for ZCMI. They have lots of old fashioned candy and toys. We all get rock candy and then play with the toys. Dylan bought marbles, Alesha & Jenna bought Indian beaded jewelry and then we head upstairs to The Hat Shoppe. We had a great time trying on hats. It was nice and cool inside so we stayed a long time taking pictures.

After ZCMI we went to the shoe store. The volunteer in there was so "In Character"! He was funny and no matter what would not drop character for a second. We went next door to the drug store and talked pharmaceuticals of the 1860's. It was very different from the pharmacy Grandma Bailey works in today. We also stopped by the furniture maker. For my Cottam cousins its worth a stop to see replicas of Thomas Cottam chairs and to hear how he made his chairs with a horse drawn lathe.

We also have to take a lesson at the school. Alesha loves to write her name with the Deseret Alphabet and Dylan was disappointed he didn't get to wear the Dunce Cap this time.

Even though it was incredibly hot we had a great day reliving our pioneer heritage!

We've done this before. Very fun! We'll have to make it a point to get to the furniture maker. Where's the playground? We actually have a membership this year and were there this past Tuesday - completely missed it.
I've taken children to the zoo in the winter time before. It's great! Why be inside with stale air?:} I think it's great you do lots of outings. Let's do a few together. You obviously have information I don't - what was the colon one again?
Oh - noticed the Lincoln County entry - fun. Might have to read the books.
I guess I better stop before you feel like this comment is sounding like a book! I should also check your blog more often.
Love ya! T
