Happy Halloween 2008!

Happy Halloween!!

Last year I made the kids Halloween costumes. I guess I was still burned out because this year I just didn't want to deal with it at all! So we pulled out the costume box and I let the kids go through all the costumes from years past and choose what they wanted to be this year. It was really fun and less of a headache coming up with something to wear. I did have an unforeseen consequence though. The kids had so many options that they did their best to wear a different costume to every Halloween event! It was a bit crazy but I think we all had fun!

Every 5 or so years Branden and I buy or make costumes and then stick with that for the next 5 years. Good thing it's the pirate years and not the Hawaiian Hula w/ coconut bra years!

For Halloween Day Jenna chose her pirate costume from 2 years ago. We had to add some pants as the dress was OBVIOUSLY too short! Over the holiday time Jenna also dressed as Alice in Wonderland, Tigger and a Dalmatian.

Dylan is forever Yoda! During the summer of 2007 Dylan worked had to earn money for the ultimate light saber from Brookstone (comes with display stand). He earned $130 and purchased a fancy green Yoda light saber with neon bulb and sound effects. (Green is Yoda, Blue for other Jedi & red for Darth's (Maul, Vader). See the things a mom has to learn!) Last year he had me make this cloak for him. He's played in it all year and I don't think he even considered being anything else but Yoda this year. When he was like 3 he wore his buzz light year costume night and day for a a year. Then next 2 years it was spider man. Somehow his Halloween costumes have turned into pajamas for the following year! BTW "Dress ups are for girls. Costumes are for Boys!!" Dylan screaming at Alesha as over heard my Mom.

Lovely Alesha! She dresses up everyday in one thing or another. She chose the Good Witch from 2 years ago for Halloween day. She added Vampire teeth and red lipstick from time to time to become a "Vampitch". She wore her genie costume to the ward party. Which was actually Jasmine from the year before. I think she was enamored by the pointy hat ad veil this year.

I guess my kids grow pretty slow or we just figured out how to make the costumes fit from years past.

Branden went to work as "Crazy Utah Man". The black wig goes with Branden's pirate costume. He makes one excellent Blackbeard! Goldman Sachs opens the office one day a year for families to trick or treat. It's really fun for us to see where he works and meet his co-workers. Besides that the kids HAUL in the Candy!
The kids are off track at Halloween and I have always worked so we have never been to the schools Halloween Costume Parade. This year we took the opportunity to go. It was really fun! Lots of Creative costumes, (Lego's, toilets, caged animal). Another great blessing of being a stay at home mom!

Very good post. Sounds like your kids are as creative as you are!
