I love Birthday Parties!! If I had unlimited Money and Time my kids would have HUGE parties every year! For Alesha’s 2nd & Dylan’s 5th Birthdays we had a combined Prince and Princess party complete with Capes and Crowns, a drawbridge and being Knighted with a real sword. But at 2 am the day of the party I found myself gluing plastic jewels on little plastic goblets I thought “What Am I NUTS!?!?! Enough is Enough!” So know we just do parties every other year with HUGE Blowout parties for special years like 8 & 10.
So, on August 23rd, 2008 we had Alesha’s 8th Birthday party. She wanted a Fancy Nancy Dress-up Tea Party. She helped design and create the invitations with a teacup and spoon made from sparkly paper on the front. We started out with 8 kids, then added a few more, and then added the younger cousins so in all we had 12 girls and 3 younger cousins.
We started the party greeting everyone at the door and took picture of each girl with Alesha. Then we went inside and decorated picture frames while I printed out the pictures. Then each girl created a crown with glitter glue, markers and plastic jewels (what is it with me and plastic jewels?!?).
Then we moved on to opening gifts. Alesha had a little birthstone ring to give girls as she opened the gifts from them. Alesha took 40 minutes to open her gifts with all the girls oohing and aahhing!!! It was so funny and cute. Alesha was amazingly gracious and thanked each girl for “the best gift ever”!!
Then we moved into the dining room for lunch. The whole party idea started with my mom’s old Luncheonette sets. Think back to any bridal shower or wedding reception prior to 1987, the fancy plate with a spot to hold the little matching teacup, and a bunch of ladies in the church kitchen washing dishes. Well, my mom had two sets of crystal seashell plates and another set with a fancy white and blue design. When mom was sending them to DI I snagged them. We’ve had lots of little impromptu tea parties with them over the years. So that’s were Alesha’s ideas began. She also had requests from the food right on down to a white tablecloth with pink napkins (with Ring Pops for napikin rings) and a bouquet of pink and white flowers! We had little club ribbon sandwiches, little pieces of watermelon, grapes, fresh pineapple, and strawberries in whipped cream cups, and olives and cheese on skewers and little crackers. We drank sierra mist with pink flavored heart ice cubes. The girls loved it and ate and ate and ATE. It was so fun to hear them visit while they were eating. I was really pleased with how kind all the girls were to each other.
Alesha didn’t want just a cake. She wanted “and assortment of deserts”. (Yes, I’m totally laughing to myself as she says that!) So, we had a tray of mini-cupcakes, mini-brownies and big soft cookies cut in quarters. We put candles in the brownies and sang to her. The girls had fun choosing their own desserts.
My favorite surprise to Alesha was a real princess tierra for the party. Over all it was a great party. I’m especially pleased with how kind and gracious Alesha was to all of her friends and even her little sister and cousins. I’m grateful to my mom and sisters for all their help with the party. .
